History

Originally established as a small lumber yard in west end Toronto, Weston Road Wholesale Lumber Ltd. was started by Frank Ekstein in 1953. His sons Rick and Peter later joined the company and by the 1990s had grown it into the Weston Forest Group, comprised of several diverse forest products remanufacturing and distribution companies, conducting business on four continents and in over forty countries around the world.

A reorganization of the group in 2005 led to the creation of six separate companies, most of which have since been sold to senior management. Weston Forest is the largest of those companies.

Today, Weston Forest is one of the largest and most diverse wholesalers, distributors and remanufacturers of forest products in North America. With close to 200 team members, Weston Forest and its subsidiaries have wide geographic coverage throughout Canada and the United States. We have 10 business units that supply industrial and commodity lumber and panels to the crating and industrial packaging industry, construction and infrastructure sector, truss manufacturers, and lumber and building materials dealers.

Weston Forest operates a distribution and remanufacturing facility at the head office in Mississauga, Ontario, and uses several third-party facilities across North America. Our organization also acts as an exclusive sales agent for a group of sawmills in northern Ontario.

Weston Forest originated as a family business in 1953. Today we are a vital, dynamic organization, acknowledged by the Canadian Business Growth 500 as one of Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies, repeatedly recognized by Deloitte as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, recipient of the Canadian Business Excellence Awards for Private Businesses, and a winner of the Waterstone Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures Award.

Our culture is one of personal growth, continuous improvement, and opportunity. It is vibrant, informal, and inclusive. We live by our brand promise: “YOU’LL LOVE DOING BUSINESS WITH US”.
